Marveling at the Lady in Line

Marveling at the Lady in Line

- at Common Ground Coffee, Tacoma, WA

Sunkissed declare the arms

loping out the sleeves

of her sky blue t-shirt,

lightly browned, leaning easy

on the white countertop,

casual, the arms, those bearers

of daily burdens, unconcerned

for a moment with the world

and its heaviness, at ease

in this busy café. She’ll never

know the subtle lift, the kiss

of sun she gave the room just

by walking through. But that’s

how the sun is: always bright,

even in the dead of night.
