Waking from Another Bad Dream

Waking from Another Bad Dream

“In any predicament you can notice you are alive.” - John Tarrant

Rasping growl of a pickup picking up speed.

Unlit beeswax taper catching fire on the east-facing windowsill.

A pair of spider plants slowly letting down slender

jade tendrils.

An ochre wall. Coffee cup in the palm. A kiss.

Black crow lording among a forest of yellow suns.

Old legs zinging from sitting crosswise for too long.

Straw-colored dog panting, pawing, asking

Just one more scritch, please?
